Green Coffee Bean Extract

Chlorogenic Acids --- 40% / 50%

Botanical Source :

Coffea arabica / Coffea canephora --- unroasted green beans \ Karnataka & Kerala, India

Key Active :

Chlorogenic Acids (CGA) --- principally 5-O-caffeoylquinic acid (5-CQA) \| Grades: 40%, 50% CGA

Standardisation :

UV & HPLC. Roasting destroys up to 70% of CGA; green-bean extraction preserves full polyphenol potency.

Mechanism of Action

CGA operates through three synergistic pathways: (1) inhibition of glucose-6-phosphatase and α-glucosidase in the liver and intestine, reducing glucose output and post-prandial glycaemic excursions; (2) AMPK-pathway activation --- the master metabolic regulator --- improving insulin sensitivity, lipid balance, and shifting fuel preference toward fat oxidation; (3) simultaneous Nrf2 activation (antioxidant-response-element induction) and NF-κB inhibition, producing concurrent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity at the cellular level. A 2024 systematic review confirmed multidimensional effects including neuroprotection, anti-inflammation, antioxidation, cardiovascular support, and antidiabetic activity through this AMPK/NF-κB/Nrf2 matrix.

Top 3 Applications

1. Nutraceuticals / Metabolic Health --- Weight & Blood-Sugar Management Supplements

A 2023 meta-analysis of RCTs (Kanchanasurakit et al., Systematic Reviews 2023;12:163) confirmed that GBCE at 500 mg CGA/day produces statistically significant reductions in body weight. The 50% grade is the preferred standardisation for once-daily dosing formats targeting weight management, insulin sensitivity, and metabolic-syndrome positioning. \[PMC10503105\]

2. Functional Food Fortification --- Antioxidant Bioactivity Enhancement

Green-coffee CGA is the most potent source of chlorogenic acids among commercial extracts. Addition at 0.25--1% in food matrices increases antioxidant activity by 37--50% vs unfortified controls --- validated in dairy, bakery, and soymilk applications.

3. Pharma / Cardiometabolic --- Antihypertensive & Cardioprotective Formulas

Clinical studies demonstrate that as little as 93 mg GCE/day (≈ 50 mg CGA) produced significant systolic and diastolic blood-pressure reductions in mildly hypertensive males. CGA also lowers ox-LDL, hs-CRP, and IL-6, positioning Green Coffee Extract as a validated cardiovascular-support nutraceutical ingredient. \[PMC6155416\]
